Default Is milage to high to mod?

Hi everyone, I am planning to doing some mod to my car - 1996 850 T5 saloon, mileage 198K, engine runs very smooth "no tapping or smoke" and pulls very well. The exterior is good condition as is the interior. Underneath little/no oil leak from engine (there is a little from the turbo), manual gearbox good as well.
I have bought a T16 turbo, 3" turbo back SS exhaust, white injectors, would like to fit the ME7 exhaust manifold as well.
But on Saturday I done a compression test to see the condition of engine 1-4 97psi 5 90psi......so should i take off the head and refurbish it to get good compression? or best get a low mileage head refurbish that one and fit all at once.

it all depends, a milage is only as good as the components on a car. I helped a friend a few years back, completly rebuild a Ren 5 turbo from scratch. Every component was refurbed or replaced, so in the end, the dash still read 150K but the car was really 'new'. So if you are planning to do a lot of work to the 854, asfar as replacing engine components etc, the the milage is irrelavant

Default milage to high

Good mileage for a Ren Turbo! and true about the mileage.

I think the best way to go is to refurbish a head ie buy another one.
What would be a fair price for a low mileage T5 head?

Default Head

Well i just bought a T5 head with 92K, so i will get that one refurbished at my leisure. Cant wait to fit all the parts "hopefully all at once" so I will notice the difference!

Sounds like a real plan you have there, make sure you keep us updated or even start a project thread...

By the way what 3" stainless did you buy and what sort of cost? is it turbo back/downpipe and full system... as I have been looking for an exhaust for months..

Thanks,

Scott.

Read on an American site that they are good for 350 to 400 bhp, but don't know if that's right.

When rebuilding and tuning a normally aspirated car it is usual practice if retaining components such as rods to get them crack tested. Which is the only surefire way of knowing they are good. If okay, then it's lightening, balancing and weight matching routine, of course.

I don't see any reason to do different with a turbo car.

Cheers,

T
