Default MPG = Not amused

According the OBC:

My 845 2.5 Manual = 36 ish mpg on a run / 22 ish mph around town with A/C on (happy with that)

My 855 2.5 Auto = 34 ish mpg on a run / 12 ish mpg around town with A/C off (Not amused)-(and only just had a main dealer service)
both cars run perfect.

Whats going on here? surly Autos aren`t that much heaver on juice than Manuals or are they?

For my V70R 2.3 Turbo i'm getting 23.7 mpg average and i get about 28 on a run (thats not booting it about aswell).

I'd love to get into the 30s.

Around town they can be a lot worse but 12mpg does seem excessively bad. If you haven't already then check your autobox fluid is in good condition, i.e. not brown and burnt smelling.

No its a red-ish color, car changes gear as sweet as a nut in fact you cant really feel it change up its so smooth.

both cars had they red petrol light on when we brought them back from picking up the 855, so we put a tenner in both and re-set the OBC my wife has been using the 845 for school /shop runs and i have been using the 855 Auto for nips around town etc both cars have covered the same mileage since putting the tenner in give or take a couple of miles , yet the red light is back on on the Auto and showing 12.2 mpg and the 854 is not showing the petrol light and is showing 22.9 , both mine and my wife`s driving styles are pretty much the same, and both cars are running fine.

I get very low MPG for the first mile or so until the engine warms up. Perhaps your car is stuck running like it would when cold. Is winter mode on?

You might have a dodgy thermostat or temp sensor, they murder MPG on short trips. Keep a close eye on the temp gauge, compare it to your other car if you can, there should be little to no difference.
