Default baffled by logic....

The attached image shows a piece of metal I picked up from my drive. Its about 50mm long, and is 12.5mm dia. Both ends show signs of fracture. 99% of people will say snapped piece of one of your coil springs, but I think they would be wrong. I spent half hour jacking all four corners looking for where the offending part came from, thinking it would be so obvious i could not miss it. When I found nothing amiss I was forced to do the job a second time, meticulously following the springs to their stops. Still nothing missing, each spring ended at the stop. Additionally, my coil springs are circa 14/5mm dia. so the the question is what is this bit of metal and where does it come from?
I checked on line and the springs I was able to check for sale are constant diameter so no thinner tails to account for the smaller dia. Its baffled me so far as its so obviously ( but apparently not) a bit of my coil spring.
Comments, thoughts as ever appreciated.
Cheers Bob.

Cant figure it out, car parked well away from road, so confident I can exclude these possibilities. After no one saying its deffo from your car or its from a xyz item I am now happy its not from my car...line in sand, and move on..
Cheers Bob.

Looks just like the broken finger that came off my wife's V40 recently. So i would confidently say it has come from someone's car spring, at some time...

That looks like someone’s coil spring that let go some time ago. I suppose stuff gets flicked up by passing vehicles all the time but at least it’s not from your car.

Default Mystery resolved...

I have been away on holiday, and asked daughter to keep an eye on our house. She had been round to put the bins out and had parked where my V70 normally lives. On a hunch decided to check her Mx5 suspension and culprit found.
Thank you simboc2004, your wife's v40 repair suggested to me a smaller car than my V70 was the owner of the lost bit of spring.
Cheers Bob
