Default Oil cooler hoses DIY repair / modification

Hi folks,

Just picked up a 98 C70 T5 2.3. I'm currently doing a bit of an overhaul and noticed that the upper oil cooler hose to the radiator is leaking. One of the previous owners had this taped up and I'm looking to do a permanent repair.

As the OEM hoses are around £110 a go and aftermarket hoses appear to be quite poor, I'm wondering about repairing the hose myself.

If I cut the crimped end off and flared the metal pipe using a good quality flaring tool, then used some kind of strong hose clamps to hold the rubber pipe on, would this be acceptable?

If not, is there an accepted method of sorting these out? From what I read even the OEM replacements have a fairly short lifespan.

Yes just cut the crimped end off and use new hydraulic hose and hose clamps. I already did that several times...

Thanks for that.

Did you have to redo it because it failed, or just repeating the job on different cars?

His conclusion is that these lines can safely be bypassed.

There is a little more information towards the end of this thread:

Yes, I've watched a lot of Robert's excellent videos and I'm impressed by the backup of solid evidence on this one.

Is there a supplier of blanking plates for this? I can't find them anywhere, it seems the way is to take one off a non turbo scrap car but those are becoming very rare in the scrappers here.

I think this may be the item you are looking for:

https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p...9/1366780.html

Volvo Classic Parts list it:

https://www.gcp.se/en/?s=1366780

which means you should be able to order it via FRF or your local Volvo Dealer, if their parts department know about the classic parts service, which they should do.

It looks as though it should be around £13

Hope this is of some help.
