Rear liftgate
Hello: 2007 V70 base w/o 3rd seat.
The lever (or paddle) you pull to raise the liftgate has always felt weak or less connected to the door's internal hardware but has always worked. Just now it felt the same but didn't engage anything. I cycled the locks via the lock button on the driver's door and the 3rd of 3 quick attempts worked normally. Q1) Anybody have any experience with this? Q2) Is there any drawing of the tailgate's guts floating around? Q3) Are the latch and/or lock parts "disconnected" in any way during their normal action. By that I mean, does actuation of the lock simply move something out of the way such that the paddle has nothing to engage if locked? Maybe such a part simply needs to be lubed? |

Got it in one I reckon. The actuator can become stiff. It's worth getting at it to lube the piston and in general the whole interior mechanism could use a shakedown. While in there you might see an opportunity to rig a something so you can open it manually from inside on the day it refuses to work. Mine did five or six years ago but since cleaning it up it's been fine.
