Angry MY17 T8 electric engine noise?

Hi Folks,

I notice a few people have T8s now and have probably put a bit of milage on them? Anyone noticed any strange noise from the electric motor?

I noticed in late December that a whine was noticeable from ours. It has gotten quite a bit louder and it's now booked into the dealer to have a look at it.

I also have this annoying Wipe Service error that comes up ALL the time. It's gone beyond a joke at this point.

It's funny that the car makes a bigger song and dance about low air in 1 tyre versus low fuel. But that's being addressed apparently.

Anyway I digress. Anyone heard of any issues with the T8 electric motor or has begun to experience the same issues?

For reference I got the car 2nd week of July 2016 and as of today I have 14k KM approx on the car.

Thanks

Not noticed any noise on mine - what kind of noise is and from where (the back I assume)?

It's a loud electrical whine. Far louder than normal. It is only audible when you hit the gas pedal. It's trivial to replicate so I don't expect the dealer to turn around and go "that's normal". It could be that the ANC (active noise cancellation) is not working but I've no way to know that.

Is it only at the point of acceleration and then when you are 'on the move' so to speak the noise goes away?

I hear a noise in the above scenario but it quickly goes away, so have just assumed its an acceleration related noise.

As an aside, has anyone managed to get anywhere near the 24miles apparently capable?

Any press of the accelerator and I get the noise. It's not the sort of get up to speed noise you're thinking of.

Re: range, only in PURE mode tbh

I'm sticking in Pure a lot of the time, doesn't seem to be any downside, but I don't think I'm getting 24 miles from a full charge - I do a regular 12 mile trip which is part local roads and part fast dual-carriageway and I can do there and back (i.e. 12 miles) on just electric but there is not much left of the battery after that.

My t8 has 20k km on it. I presume you get this noise when in pure mode. This would rule out supercharger whine from the petrol engine.

Btw, noticed your in Carlow. I'm in Kildare. Is there any other t8 owners here? bursting blue is a nice colour.

Hah, small world. I don't know of any around Carlow to be honest.

It's 100% the electric motor as it happens in all drive modes. Believe it or not, even in Power mode and AWD it's possible to hear the electric motor whine over the petrol engine. I never had this before.

I do love the bursting blue. Hell of a thing to keep clean though.

have you had any issues over those 20k KM?

I can't get 28KM out of the car no matter what. In PURE it says 35KM when the battery is full. But the MOST, absolute most is around 22-24KM.

I think I'm in the same boat as you. I always switch to PURE mode and try to be as gentle as I can whilst driving (e.g.no harsh acceleration) but the milage counter drops faster that I'd have liked. This still happens even when I'm not continuously in start/stop traffic. I wasn't sure if it was weather related. I do have the heated seats / air-con on all the time so I also thought these could be contributing to the faster decline.
