Question Polestar - Worth it?

Hi guys!

This is my first post here, as I am getting a 2013 S60 D5 R-Design Nav Lux this weekend/next week.

The car has all the bells and whistles, all the packs and a sunroof which is all lovely. However, the only option not selected was the Polestar upgrade, from 215bhp to 230bhp.

I'm just wondering if this is an option dealerships still offer, how much it would be and if you think it's worth it?

Also, the later models have daytime running lights inderneath the headlamps in the area that looks like black fins. Do you know if these can be installed on my model? They look like the same shape...?

Finally, the car has covered about 47,000 miles (nothing, I know) but are there any known issues?

Cheers guys 😊😊😊👍🏻👍🏻

I would say that the polestar is worth it as it should make the car what it should be like from the factory. Speak to your dealer re the cost and see if you can negotiate a better price than the r.r.p.of £830

I've no experience of the D5 but its well worth it on the D4. Gearshift improved as well as extra power.

Default Pincode banditry.

These p* software options are a shocking rip off only possible through the inclusion of Volvo's quite illegal use of function specific pincodes to prevent any supplier other than a Volvo dealer from introducing better written aftermarket software to properly and safely increase the outputs of a car that you own and should be free to do with exactly as you please.

I have represented the particularly well thought of Swedish software supplier MTE for nigh on 20 years now. I cannot offer their work for these current cars as I do not yet have the kit needed, and indeed the very specific skills required to circumvent these obstacles for a customer.

However to make the case that p* stuff is a mighty con then consider the outputs that MTE can gain you.... were you to live in Sweden ... 270bhp and 550nm of torque.

Don.

Why do you always say the same thing over and over again. ? It does get quite boring. Yes we do know Volvo have cut your firm out if the upgrade mapping loop and you can't earn off them but there !must be other makes you can specialise in.

As for the OP...shouldn't cost more than £600. Expensive so if run the car without for a few weeks then ask if you can buy it with the option of removing it if you don't like it.

I can't tell if it's good or not but it was good as soon as I had it done lol.

Just looked at a current V60 Drive-E D5 (2 litre for those of you still getting your heads around the D/T numbers and years). Standard D5 is 224PS, Polestar D5 is 233PS.

Previously looking at the Polestar site for Germany 1,199€ is the going rate for Polestar. 1,199€ for 9PS & 30Nm seams like an awful lot of money.

Source: https://www.polestar.com/de/product/...-automat-2016/

It looks like they they use some kind of overboost with the Drive-E engine:
Performance; Original; Optimised
Power Mid-Range (hp); 193; 202
Power Peak (hp); 225; 233

Reading the above it looks like it runs a D4 map most of the time and only when you really want the extra do you get it.

For the OP, the answer to your question is probably best found by driving the car without, then deciding if you think it lacks anything. When I consider it from the sofa, it seems like a fair price. Then when I drive the car it doesn't feel like it needs it. The day that changes I'll probably spring for the wee blue square.

Same for me. Had it on my D5 V60 and thought I'd go without it on the XC60. A few months later went for it. I liked it very much. Now I can't remember what it was like before lol.

Wonder if my P* can have another added. Lol.
