fuel tank cover
The fuel tank cover has just fallen off my 2002 XC 70 for the second time since we purchased it new. The first one was replaced under warranty by the dealer. It has just happened again at 60k miles. What's the deal? Both times it comes off in my hands when I open the cover to refuel. This time it just popped off. Any place to order hinges or whatever that will not fail? Or is there a schematic online that shows exactly how to put this thing together?
This is definately one of those things that drive you crazy. A $40K car has plastic hinges for the body and my other 2 vehicles (both $15k vehicles) have steel hinges. Aghh |

I'd guess it's the same as mine which I just had to replace (S60). It's a £5.20 "hinge" from Volvo and it's reasonably OK to fit it yourself*. Mine had lasted 4 and a half years before I broke it - I just brushed past it and it snapped - seems it's quite delicate that way!
It was actually an in-stock item in my local garage so I reckon this must happen regularly. Tony * Trick to fitting it - remove the little plastic pins before trying to tap them through the hinge - you'll see what I mean when you try it. |
