Default i pod

anyone know where to connect an i pod adaptor to the xc90 stereo?
having removed the stereo from the dash there appears to be no aerial connector? seems the tuner is remote from the unit and sends to the dashboard control unit wirelessly.
thanks
barry

Default ipod connector

You cannot fit an ipod connector to an xc90. The entertainment system works on what Volvo call a MOST network, basically it is all to do with fibre optics. Even the Volvo dealers have to use software to disable and renable the security system for infotainment before any work can be done on the system. There is nowhere to connect the adapter and this is (at the moment) unique to the xc90.

I bought an FM transmitter that powers the i pod through the cigarette lighter and transmits on any of 3 selectable wavelengths. It works ok but not super quality. The one i have is made by Monster...which is supposed to be one of the best. There is no facility to plug in an accessory on my XC90 (2005 model)....i believe you can on the latest model.

Kenwood do an FM transmitter which my local Car Audio specialist insist is really good (???). It's about £150 plus fitting.

I have a Harman Kardon drive-n-play fitted to my XC90. The ipod connects to a cable in the central glove box (but you can put it anywhere). On the top of the dash is a display that mimics the ipod screen; on the central console is a unit that mimics the ipod control wheel.
the fm output connects via cable to the head unit in the rear of the car although after three weeks the local volvo dealer is still unable to identify/source teh non-standard connector (special volvo connector for the fm co-ax); however, the connection works fine with the cable held in by gaffer tape!!
I understand that the HK unit is legal in UK...

On the XC70, there is an official volvo optional accessory to fit an ipod connector to the central armrest. Does anyone know if it will fit a XC90 as well?

On the latest version of the XC90 there is a connector under the lid of the centre arm rest.

The connector on the XC90 2007 model is a 3.5mm stereo jack socket connected to the Aux input on the audio system. It can be used to connect any audio device having a 'line' output or headphone output (ie not restricted to ipods). It is situated to the rear of the cupholders (just in front of the centre armrest) and the hinged cover must remain open for the socket to be used (this is a mechanical rather than electronic issue owing to the odd position of the socket).

Hi

I have been looking at the drive and play system - where is the fm connector fitted to? you mentioned the head unit in the rear of the car???
Have you fitted the HK 'black box' in the glove box itself.
Also what is the quality like - do you have to keep changing from the different presets?
You experience would be much appreciated

Regards

Simon
