6 Disc Changer.
Hi all, It's been a while since I visited, I've been a busy boy. Anyway, in amongst the stuff I've been doing I have been getting ready to attempt to fix the Deck Error on the CD Changer in my S40 (2005).
Now, previously I read that you could attempt a repair by swapping the circuit board out of the bad unit into the mechanical parts of a working used unit. however the first used unit that I was sent already had discs stuck in it at a wonky angle even though I was assured that it was working on removal from the car. Any way they sent me another unit, this time from a 2008 V50, after investigation I found that my circuit board was different to the newer unit, I think that volvo discovered the problem and had the design of the changer changed to illiminate the deck error fault. Any way I called my local Volvo garage to get a price on reprogramming my replacement unit to my car and was told that I may need to get it "unprogrammed/wiped" before they can re program it to my car. Does any one know anything about this or even if it is the case? Where can I get it wiped? Cheers G. |

You can swap the mechanical parts of the changer into your own unit with your own circuit board but not the other way round. It's the software on the circuit board that's coded to the car.
If you get completely stuck Marcel at http://www.centralservicescaraudio.co.uk/ should be able to repair it for you for less than a new one.

I hope this isn't going to become common now, my 2005 unit has started with 'disc unreadable' errors although this morning behaved itself perfectly.
I would be interested to see how you get on with this glagalee.

The second one that the same bloke sent me was a different part number but had no CD's stuck in it. The problem with this one is that the Main circuit board from this model is different / newer version than that in my original CD changer. The connector that connects the flexible PCB to the circuit board, is in a different orientation on both boards, there are differences in the chips and the size of the boards are different. The internal workings of the newer changer are also different to those in my original unit, so as an engineer, I believe that these 2 units are not compatable with each other. My question is do I have to get the newer changer unit wiped / de programed by someone that has the abilities to do this before I can get the newly blanked unit coded to my car, or can I fit it and take it to Volvo and have them re code it with no wiping required? Cheers G. |
