Default Wheel and tyre size S60

I have searched the forum but can't find the answer I need so I'll be specific in the hope someone can help.

I'm looking at buying a 2005 - 2008 vintage S60, this will be a current downgrade from my 61 plate V70 to fund the purchase of a weekend car.

So far I've looked at 2.0T S 2.4 SE and 2.5 T5. The cars I have looked at have had different wheel tyre combinations even within the same models . i.e the 2.0T I have looked at have had 195/65/16 or 215/55/16 wheels on, which is correct for this car? So my questions are for the S60 models
  • What was the wheel tyre size as supplied by Volvo
  • If I go to 17" wheels what tyre size do I need
  • If I go to 18" wheels what tyre size do I need

If anyone has done this would welcome your comments on ride handling etc..

TIA for any help

Ian

A low profile 17" tire will cause a rough ride if the streets in your area are not smooth. I would stay with 16" for a better comfort, given the stiff suspension in this car. A tire size speed calculator can help finding an equivalent tire size to keep the same speed at the speedometer http://www.agcoauto.com/content/plug...peed/calc.html

As mentioned 225/45 17 is the right size for the 17 inch wheels which are the most popular.

The 16's aren't very popular, up here anyway, most come with 17's.

The right tyre size for the 16's is 205/55 16 iirc.

Biggest issue with the 17's and 18's is the turning circlde is reduced over the 16 inch versions.

The correct size(s) will be on the sticker inside the fuel filler cap too.

Hello stranger from Yorkshire, I'm the one who perennially dissuades people from larger diameter/lower profile tires.
I'm also known as the "Wet Blanket".

I'm personally biased against low profile tires.
They cost more.
They wear more quickly.
The wheels are damaged much more frequently. HOW MANY threads regard wheel straightening?
The fancier they are the more likely they are to be stolen.

You bring the parade, I'll bring the rain (as the saying goes).

If you're awash with cash, send me some! I mean, go ahead and enjoy vulnerable wheels-you can afford it. Kira

Mine runs 195x65x15's V rated tyres, the ride is good and I usually get around 15k miles on the front with around 4mm left at change time, at the last change, the rears had just under 7mm left in the middle after the same 15k so were not replaced. The Uniroyals I buy are quiet on the road, have terrific grip in the wet and dry and cope with snow and ice really well!
Fully fitted, balanced & VAT, I usually get them for around £50 or £55 or so each.

Rather suspect they are somewhat cheaper in the US Kira!

Hello, The V rating is what's kicking the price upstairs. Plus the fact that there's an ever decreasing number of offerings in 15".
My size is yours. My car came with Lysithia wheels (a 9 short spoke design).
Tirerack had 3 V rated and 33 H rated tires.
1) Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum Grand Touring All-Season
$76.00 (each)-Set of 4: $304.00

2) Pirelli P6 Four Seasons Grand Touring All-Season
$106.00 (each) Closeout-Set of 4: $424.00
I put 4 of these on Mom's Saab 9-5. Great rubber.

3) Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season (V-Speed Rated) High Performance All-Season
Special Offer:
Buy a set of four and get a $40 Visa Prepaid Card by mail-in rebate
$76.00 (each)-Set of 4: $304.00
After mail-in rebate: $264.00

Sales tax to many states, delivery, fitting, disposal fees are all additional.
Seems you did well in price-$80 to $88 equivalent "out the door" as we say.
Your mileage seems low. Do you drive fast?
I'd shriek if my tires lasted only 15K. I run H rated tires; have run T rated on the same car with great results.
I drive conservatively. Kira

I thought 15,000 miles of mixed driving on the front tyres in the UK was quite good, motorways usually 70 mph, around town, what ever the speed limit is mainly 30 & 40 mph.

The UK driving around towns is somewhat different in that the friction coefficient of the surfaces is quite high, mainly macadam surfaces with different grades of aggregate depending upon the area, e.g. some areas, corners approaches to pedestrian crossings and traffic lights etc. include calcined bauxite chippings to increase surface friction and promote rapid stopping.
Great to drive on in terms of cars staying on the road, but a little heavy on the tyres when going around bends or turning corners!
