MTE Swedidsh written software.
I can offer you MTE's Swedish written calibrations for your car for £395 including VAT. That will give you enhanced outputs of 225bhp with 480nm of torque.
I can assure you that is a most 'worthwhile' proposition in the context of the humdrum Volvo written P* offering only available through their dealers at considerably higher cost. I have an '09 XC90 D5 of my own running with this MTE product and you would be most welcome to come over and try it. The moot point is that of fuel economy, most of these products are offered for owners looking for increased engine outputs and will only return a benefit in economy if driven with that end in mind. Don.

remapping
Hi.i'm a new member. I have an XC90, and I fitted a tuning box from bluespark automotive. it cost £200, but paid for itslf in about four months with improved fuel economy; about 42 mpg average. also get five preset map settings to choose from.

I had an MTE remap done on my 2006 (185bhp) done by Don in 2009/2010, and its been fine - no problems since. I went for the 220bhp/500NM torque variant back then.
when you get used to the extra torque, you learn to "ride" it a bit more in the more torquey rev range which no doubt reduces fuel economy. but on a long run at 60 on the motorway at relaxed driving, its certainly better MPG than it was pre-remap. service from Don and MTE was very quick and professional. |

Have been running Shark upgrade on XC90 for well over 12 months, mid range torque on the motorway great, delivery seems smooth to me. 40% urban and 60% fast road/motorway Getting around 30mpg overall, but I do use the power. When driving with economy in mind I see little or no difference from the standard map mpg.
The engine sound has more "meat" but not intrusive, you know there's more under the bonnet comparing to the standard I have a hand held device which holds both std and power maps, I dropped the car into the dealers not long after remap (put the standard map on) and the dealer upgraded the std map which meant that the upgrade no longer worked, quickly fixed remotely by Shark, so no complaints about after sales support either. Very pleased overall, although not cheap, suffice to say would use Shark again. Hope this helps

The only system that does increase fuel economy during the warm up cycle involves the use of a switch that acts like an old fashion manual choke. Some taxi drivers have them fitted. If you forget to switch it off when the engine is cold, it stalls when you take your foot off the go pedal. If you did get a real increase in fuel economy is is probably due to the injector tips getting cleaned up by the higher CHT that results from a power increase. Make sure you inform your insurance company about the box, because any power output increase must be declared and approved of, unless the policy includes an allowance for power increases. Oddly enough using an 0w30 rather than a 10w40 in winter does improve fuel economy. If the injectors are a bit gummed up, using a direct feed cleaner can make a difference, as does reducing the weight of the car and pumping up the tyres etc. Professional remaps tend to produce better results than cheap boxes. If the box has a big failure, some types can damage the ECU. Mild map changes like the one I have (Done by the previous owner) from 115 to 130 hp are OK, but if you are in the serious Map and boost club, keep a real good eye out for HG trouble and use the best possible German standard (Group 4) full synthetics changed on a very regular basis to help protect the turbo bearings. Some of the Redline and Amsoil engine oils are G4, but the one I use is Liqui Moly High Tech Synthoil 5/40 (A3/B4). Shell Ultra, which is a group 3+ (Gas To Liquids base) is nearly as good. Mobil 1 0/40 and Castrol Edge 0/40 are both HC (Hydo Crack) oils and they produce slightly higher wear rates, although the M1 oil does clean very well, which is important for high performance engines.
