alarm service required
Hi all,
I have the usual warning " alarm service required" and yellow triangle on the dash of my 2005 T6 XC 90, I have tried the setting the alarm and opening the door but nothing happens, I have sat in the car and set the alarm but nothing happens. When I set the alarm the doors lock and the light flashes on the dash as normal so I guess all that is working, locking works as normal, I have read on the forums about replacing the alarm siren but if nothing is happening I am not sure this is the problem, has anyone got this sort of experience? although not a major problem more of an annoyance, can anyone help? |

Mine had to go into Volvo for this.
They told me it was a faulty sensor, thankfully for me was under warranty. |

Try setting the alarm whilst sitting in the car. Keep still for a minute or two, then set off the motion detector by waving your arms around. If the alarm goes off but the siren doesn't sound, chances are your siren module has failed. The alarm unit costs around £170. You can do this job yourself, by removing the right-hand-front wheel arch. It's a relatively simple job. Some indies refuse to do the work as they fear the unit is connected to the main alarm system and the whole thing will explode if they touch it. I don't think this is the case, but I had mine replaced at Volvo for around £250 in total. So, if you don't have a dremel or the tools to do the job yourself, the additional cost of getting the dealer to do the work isn't too bad.

If you can get it on a VIDA machine it will tell you exactly what is wrong - there is a whole section in VIDA where you can run through the various alarm failures and IIRC even test individual sensors.

Not really, it's probably just your alarm battery.
It's a £16 DIY fix on S60/V70/S80, so surely it's a similar remedy on the XC......

When you test the alarm, you need to wait a couple of minutes for the deadlocks to click on. If you open the door before the deadlocks go, the alarm won't go off.

I took out siren, checked it and its corroded....anyone have any idea how or where I can get a used one for cheap I don't feel like spending 300$ or 500$ at dealer. |
