Question 7 Pin Specific towbar Wiring Volvo C30 06 help

7 Pin Car Specific towbar Wiring Volvo C30 06 onwards, help please. I bought this kit (part number VV-C3-7) new from towpipe uk. Last Thursday my car (volvo C30 R Design) was booked with a mechanic to fit towbar and electrics. The electrics are working apart from the indicators? Towpipe say no dealership coding is required but now volvo in Dundee say it is required and want £100 to code it for me. Volvo in Perth say no coding is required and as towpipe say no coding required we are stuck in limbo? I am very frustrated as i just don't know what to do now. The mechanic has fitted lots of towbars and electrics and even he is at a loss. Can anyone help me please?

just get the proper volvo electrics , safe and reliable and let then do the software to activate it .. not that expensive either .
You have too many people involved , the supplier , your fitter and volvo !

Question volvo towbar electrics help

Thanks for your response, i paid £137.00 for the new electric kit on ebay from towpipe, it was sold as volvo specific to my car, i am a woman driver and not knowledgeable so i paid a reputable mechanic who has experience in fitting towbars etc. I telephoned towpipe before i made the purchase and explained my car etc and they advised this item, However tonight i have just noticed the actual part number sent is BRINK 759237 and not VV-C3-7 as in the ebay item description so i'm not sure if this makes any difference? It should have been straight forward plug & play but it is actually been a nightmare. Everything works except the indicators and rear factory fitted parking sensors. We contacted towpipe who still say no coding required and are not helping us, but the dealership -Volvo in Dundee say coding is required (£100 to code), dealership -Volvo in Perth say no coding is required??
It isn't i have got too many people involved, i am stuck with electrics that do not work and when i have asked help and advice even from Volvo they are all saying different and i just don't know waht else to do. The electric kit is in my car now and i have paid the mechanic for his time etc so far.
I also paid £200 to towpipe for a detchable towbar as i didn't want my bumper cut but this turned out a nighmare too as it had to be cut after all.
Please can someone help me on this forum

Hi,

Moved to C30 section. Not really Web/forum related, eh?
May also be worth a look in the Caravan section as peeps there will have dealt with electrics and towing.
But as mentioned, you'll be safer/better off with one from a dealer. Try FRF.

Volvos and most other current cars have very sophisicated electronics now and outside companies dont always understand them . However the dealer does understand the equipment volvo supplies . The volvo kit would have been cheaper than this non genuine kit . You cant expect volvo to know anything or advise you about this non volvo wiring kit .
You have two choices , leave the car with this company/your mechanic until they have fixed it as you have already paid them , or take it to a volvo dealer and let them fit the proper electrical gear and claim the cost back from the other company/mechanic . It would be wise to let this other company try and sort it out with your mechanic first though . It is not your fault , they should be doing all the work trying to get it to work , even if it means them taking it to volvo to sort out .
