V40 tailgate struts
Enough is enough. My boys of course think it is the funniest thing on earth to see the tailgate whack down on Dad's head. I beg to differ. Apart from the pain, I am concerned that the dwindling population of brain cells inside here takes quite enough dents from the booze, without heavy bits of steel joining in.
Has anyone got any cheap V40 tailgate struts offering more support than mine, please?

Thank you. I'm afraid I don't know how it's done either. Haynes speaks slightly vaguely of 'carefully lifting the retaining clips and detaching them from the balljoints' - that's at the tailgate end. No idea about the body end. Maybe if no one leaps into advise I'll go and fiddle with mine at some point in the next few days and see if I can work it out. Matters less if I break mine.

Fairly easy. You will see sometthing like a circ-clip on both ends. Need to prise it off and the struts will come loose from the balljoint

Stick a flat head screwdriver under the circlips to pop them out but first of all prop the tailgate open with a broom or two. You may think the struts have gone but you will be surprised how much heavier the boot lid will be with them off.
If anyone else has any good ones Gatos maybe, mine are starting to go as well.

Cheapest I've found new, Braydon do them for £18 a side, delivered. There are a few different ones depending which spoiler you have (or haven't) fitted.
Mine are going, but not yet gone.

Surely the spoiler will act as a counter balance and aid opening.

Struts
If anybody's still after a pair I've got a pair with plenty of life left in them. Also go a bonnet strut. On offer for £10 plus postage, or pick them up from Halesowen (B63) just outside Birmingham.
Any questions, please feel free to give me call. Tony 07776 130669 |
