Low Fuel Level Light
So with all the fuel sender problems I had, the garage soldered the sender unit of mine so it now works and I get a reading, however the low warning light does not come on.
I went to fill up the other day because the needle was on the bottom line but I had no warning light. It does illuminate when the ignition is turned on so I know it works. When I filled up at the pump I put in nearly 62L of fuel which considering the tank is 60L is rather odd. Surely I should have been out of fuel when I filled up. |

Is it only 60 litre tank, last time I filled up (V40) I put 60 litres in it surely must be bigger? My previous megane was 65 litres.

Maybe our beloved petrol stations are ripping us off?

So with the amount of fuel I put in the low level light should have come on, yes?

Ok well I'll run this tank down and see if the light does indeed come on. I've got a 5L tank in the back incase I do run out.

I was playing around with my VIDA/DiCE gear last night and noticed that the system reads the car as having a 63L fuel tank. Not much difference to the book value of 60L, but a slight one all the same.

Ah ok. So with around 45 miles left in the tank should my low level light have come on? That would mean I only had around 1L left.

Difficult to know what happens.
I had a weird one recently - I usually get around 430 miles to 42 litres of diesel (going by my http://www.spritmonitor.de brief history) but the last fill up only gave me 262 miles to 40 litres - no change of driving at all. Something was wrong somewhere, but I've no idea where. It seems like the car is back to its normal fuel consumption now. A quick Google came up with this thread of others questioning the accuracy of fuel pumps http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=995965 Anyway... If the fuel light is supposed to come on at 45 miles left (?) then that would roughly equal 5 litres or so of fuel remaining. Which would in turn mean that we would never be able to put more than 58 litres in if we fill immediately when the light comes on. I'd guess that that 45 miles is an arbitrary figure seeing that we have differing mpg rates and differing driving styles. [edit] According to this Volvo page (about a third of the way down) LINK it states the following: Quote:
