Default How to disable the automatically switched on lights?

Hi all

What’s the best way to disable the automatically switched on dipped headlights and rear lights when I am driving my 1991 240 estate. I don’t want the lights on at all unless I turn them on myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There certainly is a fuse that disables the dim dip, but on mine that's all it did.
(From memory fuse 10, but that may be wrong. It says on the panel key anyway)
The sidelights still come on whenever the ignition is on.

On my Torslanda whichever fuse it was only operated the dim-dip, but I think on my present car the fuse also has another function - perhaps electric windows. If so you would need to identify the actual wire to unplug, not remove the fuse.

On my 1989 the fuse takes out all the lighting in switch position 0 (off) where DRLs are normally on.

When I say all, I mean all exterior lights front and rear + dash board lights as well. The fuse doesn't take out anything else.

My '88 and '89 cars had a dedicated fuse, removing it disabled dim-dip (the headlights glowing dimply even when switched off) AND DRL (the sidelights switched on all the time). my '93 has a different setup, there's no dedicated fuse to remove as some other circuits are on the same fuse. I have disabled dim-dip by disconnecting the wire from the fusebox. Look at the fuse guide, and once you know what fuse it is, disconnect the wires one at a time from the right hand side of that fuse until you find the right one, wrap it in electrical tape and tuck it away.

I think the DRLs are on the bottom 2 fuses, but the wires for them are crimped into the same terminals as the sidelights. I haven't experimented with this one yet as I don't want to cut up my wiring but I may try it soon.
