S80 Remap - Is this Possible?
Hi All
Ive got a 07 Plate S80 D5 which I think is a 185bhp model (Silver cover on engine). Its an auto and im quite pleased with it so far. I use the car for work - do about 40k per year and would say 75% of my driving is motorway and the rest a-roads and city etc The car averages about 37-40mpg ( im not daft with it but like to make progress now and then.) I'm thinking of a remap and ideally would like the following:- a) I want it nice and economical around the 2000 rpm mark 70-75mph mark so its as efficient as possible when cruising down the motorway. b) Only really want the extra grunt for overtaking etc ( i,e when foot into the carpet) Questions 1. Will a remap improve the economy? 2. Which remap will fit my needs best 3. Can i get a map that meets the requirements? Thanks for any pointers |

Hi,
here what Rica offer for your car. I have tuned quite a few diesel Volvo's, and all have found an increase in mpg along with enhanced power for overtaking etc etc one of my customers who has a D5 sports tune has found a vast improvement in mpg, especially on motorway journeys. The delivery of power is quite impressive too....... here is a link to your car.. http://www.rica-uk.com/viewcar.aspx?vehicle=1 hth Chad

D5 Software enhancements.
I can offer you the Premium Swedish written MTE software that will give you outputs of 220bhp with 475nm of torque delivered across a wide rev. range.
You need to consider the underlying characteristics of a diesel engine, good progress on the road is made by utilising the wide mid range torque characteristics. To search for higher, peaky horse power outputs puts great strain on the standard turbo by causing it to overspeed and great care needs to be taken to control the boost with great precision to preserve the integrity of the standard intercooler. With the greatest regard for this very busy site you should visit www.t5d5.org where virtually all the experienced owners of modified, late model cars hang out. You need to spend some time there researching the experiences of many owners in this field and the abilities and veracity of those of us in this market. Best regards, Don.

Power is good...
Hi,
I have a Rica map for my 59-reg 175hp 2.4D; it now does 240hp. As I mainly travel when no one else does I find myself using the extra power, it is addictive and a killer for fuel usage. I also have the Rica 195hp eco map but I am more interested in the overtaking capability the 240hp gives me. I would say the money you spend on the tune is justified if you want the power increase, but you will have to do a lot of miles to make it pay for itself in better fuel usage and the willpower of a saint not to use the extra power! |

agree with the above ! You never have a map upgrade for economy , you will be very disapointed if you think you are going to use less fuel ! ..

High power D5s.
I have to say that this trend towards high claimed power outputs amounts to a load of misleading and utter tosh.
You only have to search in depth at the source of the most knowledge of modified D5s, www.t5d5org that is, and find that all manner of premature failures and expensive repairs arrise from attempts to gain vacuous high power claims from Volvo's D5s and related 5 pot diesels, in particular turbo damage from overspeeding and burst intercoolers. You also have to be prepared to accept that the torque characteristics of a diesel engine are what makes for faster progress on the road ....not having some transitory, claimed high power outputs high up in the rev. range. And, those torque characteristics have to be seen over a wide mid range to give any real, valuable improvement in on the road performance. Volvo owners have suffered misinformation, obfuscation and downright lies in the past from certain sources of aftermarket software and their UK distributors and here we go again.....
