Default 960 Aux 12 volt sockets

Hi.

I got fed up with swapping over my Sat Nav, iPod and phone charger leads in my 960 and being the type that hates tons of cables and adapters hanging out of the dashboard etc, I devised a Christmas holiday project....

I wanted to plug in my Sat Nav so the cable was out of the way of my instruments and radio etc so with a little trial and error with placements came up with this.....

Where its situated is ideal as the curly wire just stretches nicely down the edge of the glovebox lid.
Im not to keen with the standard aux cover so im going to salvage a rear ashtray one from a Saab (which are a lot neater)

For my phone I was going to situate the next one inside the centre arm rest but as my daughter is always wanting to charge her Nintendo I opted for this cool little mod.....

I butchered and old BMW ashtray surround (from my old E30 to be precise) and pulled to pieces the new aux socket to make the insert to the ashtray, drilled a hole in the ashtray and ran the cable along inside the centre console.

Both sockets are correctly fused and spliced into the switched 12 volts of the car!

I think they are pretty neat and dont take anything away from the somber lines of the 960s interior

What do you think?

Smart work - it's good to keep the cables tidy/unseen.

Very nice, I would like more details on the rear ashtray mounted one. How did you fix the plastic into the ashtray, etc?

Hi.

Thanks for your positive comments....

I should have taken some pics whilst I was making it!

If you like, ill do a quick diagram of how it was done.

To answer your question regarding attaching the piece of plastic into the ashtray, luckily theres a ledge on the Volvo ashtray exactly where the other piece ends up..... unfortunately it lines up along the bottom so I had to use a strong glue and glue it against the underside of that ledge.

I trimmed the rest of the plastic to an exact size with a dremel so its a nice tight fit.

I like this... a lot.

Just thinking of the things I could plug into those aux sockets.

Nice work

We all love a nice little useful mod every now and then!
