Default 960 boot speaker removal

I decided to replace a blown rear deck speaker and just can't get the darned thing out, Removed the two screws and I can move the speaker around, but it seems like I need to remove the upholstery cover to get the room to out it. Any trick I need to know about?

Thanks!

Hi there Tobydoggy,

I repaired one of my rear shelf speakers in a 940 saloon I recently sold. If it has that woolly/ fluffy/ distorted sound you'd normally associated with a damaged voice coil, just check the mid-range/ tweeter assembly hasn't dropped off its mount onto the bass unit.

I re-glued my tweeter back onto its mount and it worked perfectly.

To get them out you need to take the parcel cover off, to do this you need to take the rear seat cushions out!

If I remember correctly, it goes somthing like this:

Push the front edge the seat base down and forward very firmly. This will un-hook it from the 2 hooks at the front edge. If you look under the front edge of the seat cushion and pull the foam up, you can see the hooks holding the wire frame.

The seat cushion will now lift out...have the hoover ready, but pick up your 'winnings' and half-chewed sweets first....yum!

Next the back cushion:
Pull the centre armrest/ child seat down, and lift up the vinyl cover flap which will expose a few (2 I think) torx headed bolts. Undo these bolts which hold a clamp which holds the wire frame in place.

My memory is a bit hazy on whether or not there are more bolts/ clamps at the outer edges, I think there might be. If you pull on the back cushion you'll soon see where it is attached.

With the seat back out of the way, you'll see the bolts holding the parcel shelf cover in place. Undo these and you'll see the speakers and off you go.

I'm not very good at describing the process, but you get the idea. It will be quite obvious how the back cushion is fitted. I got stuck on the seat cushion as I couldn't get the clips to release for ages.......the neighbours thought I was going mad...hopping up & down in the back of the car (on my own of course!)

It is easier than it sounds.

Cheers,

Rich
