Sorry Roy, your comment about not having rusty nuts hit a chord in my tiny mind. Made me chuckle.

Very poor show from a company who must be very experienced in snow/salt conditions.

Have you tried spraying the nuts with Dinitrol or Tectyl and wiping it off?

As an update to this I've just got the dealer to order a new set of wheel nuts and their "warranty man" said that if they go rusty again Volvo will not replace them as I might be washing the wheels with "acid".

I had this problem using Wonder Wheels alloy wheel cleaner. You could try calling one of those companies that restore alloy wheels. Just for some advice on which products to use or avoid.

I'm going to see what happens. If the next set go rusty as well I'll put another claim in.

Otherwise it might have to be a set of McGuard nuts.

I have a "59" plate and have had mine changed once already and they need changing again. All was fine until the roads got salted and within a day they showed signs of rust including the locking nuts.

Nowadays, Volvo's wheel nuts do not stand longer than one winter without rust. The thing is that Volvo's "Volvo for life" slogan does no longer imply robustness and quality. Over past few years, on my XC90 V8, which supposed to be the Volvo flagship model, I had to change quite a lot of components: steering couplings, ball joints, wheel hubs, and even the infotainment system, etc. Too many repairs for a car gone less than 80,000 km. For comparison, my older Volvo V70 1999, and S80 2004 each ran for 6 years and over 100,000 km without a single fault. S80 2004 was the top quality car with all possible respects.
In a short term (before you get sick and tired of declining quality and change to a different brand) Volvo earns extra profits by manufacturing "disposable" cars: the base price of a new Volvo remains reasonably low to attract the buyer, yet it it wears so quickly that you have to change it after 3 to 5 years. It reminds me the business concept practiced by H&M - fashionably looking and top selling crap. Sales soars yet customer satisfaction slowly goes down.
