Exclamation Fault code 042

I have an 06 m/y euro4 v70 diesel which I am perfectly happy with, except when the message centre reports" Engine system service required" & when I press & hold the mileage reset button the code 042 is displayed. A day later the message disappears only to return several days later. I do not use a regular volvo dealer as the distance is too great compared with my local garage, so I am having difficulty understanding whats going on with my V70.
Anybody out there know what 042 code means on my model V70 PLEASE.

Dont know what the code means but I had a similar problem with this message on a 2007 model v70
Turned out brake lights and cruise control were not set properly
Easy check - are your brake lights coming on with just the usual light touch of the pedal - if they are its probably not this problem but could be worth a try

Yes, the problem was as you indicated with the setting of the brake light switch relative to the brake pedal, & required only a few minutes to reset.
After your message I noted following cars indicating they were not happy with the amount of rear illumination from my car, when I checked & found the brake lights were on most of the time without the brake pedal being depressed. I'd also had trouble with the cruise control switching itself off.

Good answer that man!

Hi guys,

I just came across your post and glad I did, my v70r has the same symptom you seem to be describing. You seem to be describing reseting the setting on the brake light switch.

Would you mind describing how that can be done?

Thanks in advance!

Hi
Just saw this post
problem in my case was the brake light needed a lot of pressure to come on. dealer adjusted pedal which is now very sensitive but all works fine
Not sure you can do it yourself
