Default Drive shaft replacement on XC60 2.4D Drive

You may have seen my small gripes in the "Are XC60 owners happy?" tread.

Well the car (XC60 2.4 D Drive SE Manual) was in the garage this week to get the issues sorted.

Turns out the most concerning gripe of the knocking from the front-suspension (on both sides) when going over speed humps even at < 10 mph was due to the drive shafts.

Dealer said this was the 1st time they had come across this - and reported the fault to the Volvo HQ to be advised that this was a recognised issue and that modified drive-shafts were available........ and were now on order.

My car is 2.4 Drive model - so clearly only fwd. But other owners might want to be aware. Mine was oner of the first few XC60 Drive's in the UK so lets hope it was only an issue with the first "batch".

Kind of worrying on the one hand - but good in another that Volvo seem to be going out of their way to rectification this and the alarm fault (new sensor to be shipped in) and doing the wing mirror noise fix again.

My XC60 Drive Manual has been in three times for this problem.

On the last occasion they replaced the drive shafts and the problem looks to be fixed. I was starting to worry it would not be fixed.

That said - I would not have wanted that repair bill if it had been out of warranty !

Mikeage 5K.
