To be honest I'd rather be going 60mph in the country than 30mph in a city any day

On a country road
two way highway/road I like to do up to 60mph also, but a single track (with passing places) like the ones here in Wales and I expect in Scotland and some in England is crazy!!!! I've obviously lost this arguement with most of you lovers of speed on this website, I can understand the feeling that you don't enjoy being told how to drive and at what speed, but, it's a shame that the accident that happened that wrote off my Rover 75 will happen again just because someone can't control their car correctly through over use of the accelerator on these types of roads!!!!!!! and the next time the driver might just be dead along with any innocent by-standers. I think it's very sad!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for making our point for us. That statement just reflects what many of us have been saying ever since you started this thread, it's not the speed that is the issue, it's the DRIVER.

Actually Mo, I do love speed More accurately, I love "appropriate speed", hence my penchant for heading to Germany several times a year.

I love
Country life. Very relaxing, most of the time! Quiet and away from doorstep salesman etc. This particular single track is not far from Pontypridd in the Rhondda valleys so is used regularly as a "short cut" by "semi city/town" drivers. I know alot of these types of road are quite quiet most of the time away from built up areas, but this one is getting busier by the day and therefore instead of being an occassional use road is becoming a more "main route" road, more stressed up traffic taking more chances on these roads = more accidents. We also get a lot of vehicles getting stuck, bogged down, in the mudier passing points, I suppose the local car towing place must be making a fortune out of this road.

You could write to your council to get some of those 'recommended speed' signs put up on the corner in question.
As for a blanket speed limit on all single track roads, I doubt country folk would abide by it and when your on an old roman road that just disappears off to the distance in a straight line it'd be pretty annoying. Most of the time you cant get past 60 mph on single track roads anyway. |
