Default Dead Radio 2005 V50

My radio has just died on the way to the office. Was working fine when I pulled into a petrol station, switched off refuled etc. When I got back in (and had entered the pin for the phone) it just said 'FM1 Preset 10' (was on preset 1 when I turned it off) and there was no sound. I couldn't change the station (either on the stering wheel controls, the station buttons, the 4 way pad or rotary tuning button), and changing between FM1, FM2 and AM takes an age. Tried the CD player and it just said 'Busy loading disc', tried ejecting and since then it just says 'Ejecting disc' (waiting for the disc to come out...).

All other buttons work fine (base, treble, volume etc etc etc), and the tuning buttons / wheel buttons work when in phone mode - and I have sound when someone calls me, and when making calls through the speakers.

Has anyone else experienced this, does anyone know a way of resetting the stereo software?

(And when did we need to start resetting software in so many things anyway? The whole 'If microsoft made cars' joke is becoming a reality! They die for no reason and people do just accept it...)

HELP!

Oh - I forgot. I've tried turning the stero on and off, and also tried turning off the car and taking out the key for a few mins before restarting the car (all to no effect)

I've had a very similar problem to this, and it was fixed by cutting the power to the radio for about 5 minutes. (You can actually here the power supply cut out after a minute after you've removed the key).

I'm trying to get a new radio on warranty as mine has done it 2 or 3 times now.

Short of cutting the power I don't know what else to suggest. There is a software update floating around out there for radios that 'freeze', but my dealer told me that was for North American cars only. (So now we have crappy software and different crappy versions depending on where you are in the world!)

Give that man an apple!

Just went downstairs to retry and indeed it went straight to the station I was listening to before it crashed. Not tried the CD player (but I am going to hope for the best...)

Guess I'll have to keep an eye on it and contact my dealer for a fix (for far the second issue - it's having a leaky rear window fixed on Monday).
Thanks again,
Stu

I've had my 55 plate V50 have the radio freeze, so the problem is not just on US cars.
A Software update did fix the only occurrance of this that I experienced.

Well all works again. As it's going in for a couple of things tomorrow (new towing hitch connector - from 7 pole ot 13, and the leak) I'll ask whilst I am there.
