I'd agree Andrew; I wouldn't seriously consider a motorcar or motorcycle when the seller wouldn't tell me the registration nmber.

I can't imagine what seller's think they are gaining by hiding the registration number - it just looks a bit daft.

The wheel-trims are from a 79-ish example, but the door mirrors are the later, 1980-onwards version though I retro-fitted the same style to Olaf, which was a 1979, V-plate example.
Just to throw yet another spanner into the works, chaps, that ain't no '73 car!

As I recall, the earliest 2-series cars were registered in late '74 on an 'N' plate. We had a very early (April?) '75* 244DL, also on an 'N'*.

'73s and '74s would have been late 1-series cars (which shared many of the early 2-series features (notably bumpers and dash)). We once considered a very late ('74(M)) 144DL with the most garish upholstery. The seats appeared to have been made from redundant deckchair material - such was the fashion of the day!

Regards, John.

He was working on information from the DVLA.
The car is post '78. I passed this on to the seller.
Square headlights, wrap around tail lights and plastic door pockets is all the proof I needed.

This is identical to mine (except mines an auto )and is a good photo reference for pre '78 models .

Soft pockets, round headlights and flat(as 140) tail lights.

It is certainly the same motor car and the same seller - but twice the price it has failed to sell at for the past 18 months. The seller has 'prepared it for sale', but has obviously not done any of the proper bodywork it needed. Here is an example of the OS sill I took from the previous (£2,500) ad:

... and one taken from almost exactly the same perspective of the new (£5,000) ad:

The big holes in the sill have disappeared, but the panel has obviously not been replaced (unless someone welded on a pre-rusted one to maintain the patina ), so I think you are right Bob, this one is down to some chicken wire, a Weetabix box and some plastic padding with a blue rattle can.

I suppose the dealer (FBI Classics of Swansea) has become a bit desperate, but I think what he/she has done is despicable.

Ho hum - human nature is not always a pretty thing

Oh dear, I’d almost forgotten that one as it had been on eBay for so long, good spot it’s doubled in asking price, but I’d concur with all the comments.

One to stay clear off.

Cheers
Steve
