Default Pleas explain how to use -B+ mode!

I have just had delivered a 2023 XC60 Core T6 Recharge. I cannot so far find out how to correctly use the B gear selection. It sounds like adjustable regen braking like on a Outlander, but the "manual" says it uses the engine braking to regen. But what if the ICE engine is not being used? Does not make sense to me. Does using B turn it into a "manual" selector.

Please help!

B mode on the gearbox engages an increased regen braking mode that uses the electric motor to brake the car at an increased rate than in D (which allows the car to coast more) and also recharges the hybrid battery a bit too which is bonus. B mode works at all times regardless of what drivetrain is being used, just lift off the accelerator and it slows the car down.
The T6 & T8 recharge cars have 2 electric motors, the main 143bhp one fitted on the rear axle (ERAD) and an 80hp Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) installed on the engine gearbox. I am still unclear as to which electric motor is used to produce the regen effect but one of them does it.

T6 and T8 Recharge cars can also be put into a one pedal drive mode (like most modern EV's) which allows you to modulate the regen braking effect using only the accelerator pedal and bring the car to a full stop. Its very different to get used to initially but once you're used to it, its a great way to drive about.
I can do most of my driving these days without ever pressing the brake pedal at all unless someone pulls out on you unexpectedly or you misjudge your approach speed to a roundabout or junction and have to use the friction brakes for the extra stopping power.
To engage the one pedal drive, you have to deactivate the 'Creep' mode on the driving settings screen and put the gearbox into B and hey presto, no more need to use the brake pedal.

Thank you for the explanation. That makes much more sense. I thought surely that must be the case, but it doesn't tell you in the manual exactly how to use it. Just putting into B mode feels like the desired effect but I wasn't sure. I will try it with the creep mode switched off!

When in B mode, as well as the explanation above, you also have the ability to manually change up or down gears by moving the gear selector left or right. This only applies when using a drive mode which includes the ICE, in others words not in Pure. Pure mode uses the rear electric motor only which has no gears.

The + & - can be used to change gear manually at any stage, the only difference is that putting it is B and selecting gears manually locks manual selection on until you put the gearbox back into D and gear selection reverts to automatic. Using + & - when in D mode keeps manual selection for only a short period of time and if not used again for the set period, the gearbox reverts by itself to automatic selection.
In addition, if running in electric mode and you use the + or - (in either B or D), the ICE will be started and will run until manual gear selection has been disengaged.
