BUT, having had 121s, 240s, 740s, 940s and V70s there is a void. Been looking for a 240 saloon for awhile as a toy/hobby. It will have to be a very good one because I can no longer do any major stuff. That's why I ridded both my old Land Rovers.
This thread dealing with prices is very interesting. I've seen a 61k 87,
GL in Wimbledon for £7995 and also a very similar offering in Wellingborough for the same money.
These aren't selling so I guess they are way too dear! Correct?
How about this one:

The story about being in a garage in Spain for 17 years sounds just about plausible. In that case it probably won't have any rust, but probably will need a bit of mechanical re-commissioning. The price looks okay.

The bit about not having the V5 is a bit lame - the fault of those Swansea civil servants who want to work from their kitchen tables forever :-)

PS. The speedo not working (honest guv, it just broke last week) story is a bit suspicious - coupled with the lack of any MoT record and a 17 year gap in the motor car's history. I suppose someone may have disconnected the speedo drive (I think electrical from the back axle of that model?) 17 years ago and it has really covered 370,000 miles.

Looks good for the money, also was in Spain from 2005 - the year before records show on MoT history is convenient but could equally be true. It would also explain the delay at the DVLA because of re-registering i the UK, that has always taken longer as i'm sure you've experienced in the past Alan.

I like white estate cars - the 240 I bought new whilst living in Germany in 1985 was just like that one - white with blue seats :-)

Both my Maxis were white. I guess you'd have liked them, too.

I have a feeling this one is probably a genuine car and the circumstances are no more than stated.

I've registered lots of cars I've imported from overseas in the past - even in the pre-computer days it never look 6 weeks as it does now. The poor service is entirely due to the highly unionised labour at DVLA dragging its feet about getting back to work properly. It has a monopoly and so can provide as poor a service as it likes; the current aim is to get full time wages for part time work - but that is nothing much to do with this motor car.

:-)

I think it's genuine enough, I am a natural sceptic but we have to believe someone eventually, otherwise where would we be.
Buying anything used, you buy the guy not the object on sale! 🙂

Every time I overtook another Maxi on a motorway, I'd wonder why it was going so slowly and what the driver knew that I didn't. It took me ages to work out that it wasn't car as such, just the kinds of people who usually drove them.
