Default Timing belt/aux belt temperature

Hi folks. Strange question but does anyone know what the running temperatures of the timing and aux belts are?
4
I changed the timing belt & tensioner plus the aux belt & tensioner and the alternator pulley last weekend.

I noticed a 'warm' smell this evening and I removed the belt covers. The timing belt/idlers/waterpump were sitting at 80C and the aux belt/idlers/alternator pulley were sitting at 60C after a five mile drive.

I noticed that the timing belt is a bit tight with the tensioner being half outside of its mark (to the right) so I'll re-tension that tomorrow. The belt being too tight will be the cause of the higher than expected temperature and I suppose that heat could be soaking, via the crank pulley, to the aux belt stuff but does anyone know what 'normal' temperatures are?? Ta.

The timing tensioner indicator will change with temperature.
Dead centre is room temperature 20°C when fitting the timing belt but it moving to the right on a hot engine isn't unusual.
I would expect the auxiliary items to be "cooler" as they're not all against the main block.

What are you measuring the temperatures with?

Using an IR thermometer thingy. I'll check the tensioner again tomorrow morning. I've read that the belt should be tensioned with the engine stone cold and mine probably wasn't - a previous thread mentioned that I had to tweak the tension a couple of times.
It just doesn't smell right though...

Well I checked the timing tensioner this morning (BBC weather reckons it's 16C just now) and the tensioner is slap bang central.
I wonder if the new belt just needs to bed in - it's done maybe 250 miles since the change so I'll keep an eye (and nose!) on it.
Hopefully I'm only worried because I've never had cause to measure the temperature before so I've no idea if this is a typical temperature...
