I've had computer controlled cars since 1984 and industrial equipment with computer controlled engines and transmissions since 1993. Lots of them. Probably 90%+ of issues have been mechanical or simple traditional electrical [not computer control] issues. Mechanical outnumber the electrical [not electronics] by about 4 to 1.
Today I have a bayonet bulb failed in a dashboard… simple electrical. Late last week I had an oil leak from a slack joint. Today I had the bill for a small right angle gearbox that broke a tooth about three weeks ago. And so the pattern goes backwards in time. Obviously there are exceptions both ways. My old [new at the time] BMW X5 had an issue where if parked near a railway station the body computer would refuse to go to sleep and would drain the battery, resulting in the car being recovered to the dealer multiple times until they sorted it. By the time I changed it for a Range Rover, which at the time was BMW based, that issue had been resolved, but it took six years to fully resolve the front mechanical differential failures.
