Interesting info regarding the split boots you glue together, I had used one of those perhaps nearly 20 years ago on my first car for an MOT at short notice but always been warned off them since. You sound like you’ve had a good experience with them however, any particularly make or type that you used?

I agree with you that if I’m to take the joint apart again with the circlip pliers and three pair of hands etc. and go to all the trouble it’ll be a genuine Volvo boot this time. I am intrigued by which split glue boot you used though and whether it’s worth a try?

On the braking side of things, I ordered a set of new front flexis for when I rebuild the callipers then went mad and ordered new discs and pads all round and new bleed nipples to just sort the lot in one go. Should brake very nicely afterwards...

Yeah I think my CV boot came with the CV joint, so it seemed daft not to use it. Unfortunately it wasn't worth it even if it was 'free'. Thankfully the CV joint seemed fine. Professional Parts Sweden/Scan Tech don't seem to be very good with rubber/plastics...

Unfortunately I don't seem to have a record of what boot it was I got as it was too long ago to check through eBay, however this looks very similar from what I remember: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Split-Driveshaft-Cv-Boot-Gaiter-Kit-Stickyboot-Outer-Instructions-For-Volvo/362238712141?fits=Car+Make%3AVolvo%7CModel%3A850&e pid=8014770688&hash=item54571c194d:g:V30AAOSwUmtbF pKM

From what I remember one side has a groove and the other sticks out a bit, hence with the glue it should seal it pretty well. Worst case scenario it splits and you have to take the driveshaft out again... My advice would be to be very careful sticking it together to ensure it will last. I do wonder if those with a bad experiences rushed it, I only did mine about 1cm at a time if I recall correctlty to ensure it stuck well.

Sounds like you are making good progress with the brakes. I had to cut off my rear calipers since the brake lines were completely seized... The OSRs pins were so corroded the caliper body broke before the pins shifted... the joys of old cars! Should be worth it in the end though
