Information
  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way
  • AOL Customers: Make sure you check the 'Remember me' check box otherwise the AOL system may log you out during the session. This is a known issue with AOL.

So what are you paying for?
Would it encourage people to pay-up or become members? I doubt it.

A members section which has details of VOC activities etc may work.

There are benefits to being a VOC member. An additional benefit of a VOC only section on the forums? Ok, but to what purpose?

There are quite a few Volvo orientated forums/sites out there. From the UK and elsewhere. All with free info and stuff.

This site has the additional benefit of being run/managed by people who organise the Owners Club. Is there a benefit to the forums because of this connection?
Could the relationship be better used, for both VOC members and forum users?
That is where I think thought and consideration should be applied.

Also worth thinking about is the fact that this forums and its members, and the VOC members are a combined voice.
Political asperations? No I have none, but political influence to be applied.
There are things happening in this country which need an opposing voice (road charging, state of roads, congestion charging etc) and where existing bodies like RAC and AA are failing miserably.
Maybe all the owners clubs should get together to apply the vast influence of its members...?

Maybe it would also be time, perhaps to give the How To... section a shake up. MAybe there are fixes for common issues that are well known, but have not been submitted to this section, which deserve submission now..
Like the "Search" function, it seems an underused resouce..

Des. . .

hear! Hear! well said.

cheers

there seems confusion with a members section of what you would be able to access or couldnt,im assuming that the voc if they introduced a members section it would resemble the forum below see link, everything you see in the link is free you dont have to pay ,just register, now if you were a paid member you would also see a members only section,in this theres 1 sub forum, where you would get ,discount on parts, discount on insurance, first refusal on group buys, etc, etc, that is the advantage of paying your fees, other wise whats the point of paying the membership fee,,if you are only a registered user you can still get all the info yoou want and make as many posts as you feel like,

Its a total wate of time and effort and would acheive exactly zilch apart from proving theres no better recipe for a great forum than a wide range of members from the highly modded t5 owner boring everyone to death with his turbo boost levels to the pipe and slipper old duffer waffling on about how fings aint wot they used to be and why arnt volvo still making the amazon? blah blah, no what this place needs is knowledgable witty members, clueless, dullards and everyone in between regardless of whether or not they can quote there membership number to you.

Thats the kind of forums I love to visit. Full of people, each to his/her own and sharing freely their thoughts, opinions, advice, etc. Its a great place to visit, have a laugh, get some help and it becomes a bookmark thats used daily.

For the reasons stated, however, feel free to give your views of the benifits of a members only forum over a forum open to all volvo enthusiasts for i can think of none .

because quite simply there is more non paid members here than paid members sometimes i feel like a few of you are like the church always trying to force things on people that are not needed ... dont get me wrong im just a council estate low paid working class neanderthol who can barley afford to keep my now again broke 440 turbo let alone contribute money to this site as most of the benifits benifit all you middle lol class c70 850 etc drivers who seem to be able to afford regular matinence on there cars using garages i salute you for paying for upkeep of this forum but surely youre reward is that you have helped a growing forum get bigger and encourage so many people to join the volvo world or like me help me stay with volvo by the advise people give at the moment i drive a vaux frontera 4x4 and wanted to join to find out things but there club/forum is not run like this 1 and you have to contribute to be able to get info ..Another reason i havnt paid is that i tend not to keep cars long so at first i thought it pointless as i thought i would change again soon but i enjoyed my 440 so much i am slowly restoring her bit bit so i thinks when its done i will attend a few meets and also contribute money to a site that has and i dare say will carry on saving me money .............................................JUST DONT FORGET ABOUT US LITTLE GUYS AS I DO THINK SOMETIMES YOU FORGET THERE IS OTHER VOLVOS OUT THERE OTHER THAN BIG BHP T5S ETC LETS HAVE A SPONSERED GROUP HUG
