Default Urgent advice on timing belt damper

Hi
I am in the middle of a timing belt change on a 1999 2.9 normally aspirated S80. I am not sure if the damper for the tensioner is OK or not? It did not come in the kit. It is very stiff (I can't make it move in if I push it against a fixed surface) and the shaft only protrudes by a small amount. I also notices a small amount of oil leaking from the hole in the top but is had been lying on it's side.

I am able to turn the shaft so not seized up.

Does this sound like it's normal or a problem?

Many thanks

Dave

Hi cheshired5.

Yes I agree, I have hit the pin with a lump hammer and I can't see any movement. No car for work now until Tuesday

The damper was seized. I could not get one from any Partco so contacted Volvo spares only to be told it is obsolete and no longer available???

I managed to get one from the AutoDoc website from Germany. I chanced putting the old unit back on with new belt pulleys and water pump as I needed the car. I was able to replace it without taking off or disturbing the timing belt.
