In the summer they undertook a major overhaul of my car which did result in an eye watering bill but you should see what they did for the money. I am confident that they provided good value despite the price.

Today they replaced the DIM unit on my V70 and did a few other bits and pieces. The bill was very fair considering the price of the DIM unit. Not only that but they did the work in about one hour - I dropped the car off, borrowed one of theirs to go into haslemere, I hadn't even had a chance to finish my coffee before Russell's on the phone asking me to pop back to collect my car.

I travel down there from SW London and even though it's about a 70 mile round trip, I think it's well worth it.

Can I just say a big thank you for posting this recommendation on this thread. If you hadn't then I would never have found out the truth.

Russ, do you think that the Volvo owning fraternity is populated entirely by fools? It would seem so from the post above, personally speaking I take great offence when someone such as yourself attempts to insult my intelligence in this manner.

Why is it that you believe that despite the fact that you continue to act in the same manner you will somehow get a different outcome? Russ, denying that you have the problem that you clearly have whilst getting customers(?) to post blatent 'adverts' (including your phone number FFS!) isn't going to prove a sustainable means of rebuilding your business.

Russ, here's a bit of a clue, when business' have problems and it becomes public knowledge, do they generally try and hide the fact? Do they run around sending ridiculous letters from two-bit solicitors? Or do they face the public and tell them what went wrong (as far as they can do so), what they are doing about it, how they are going to make sure it doesn't happen again, and express their contrition that things didn't go as they would have wished???? If you're not sure here's a further pointer for you, a rather large concern had a similar problem to yourself last year in as much as they had rather a large escape of oil, and what did BP do about it Russ??? Did they deny that they had the problem? Did their management retreat to the bunker? Do I need to go on???

The fact of the matter is that my opinion of RT Mechanics as mechanics is pretty low, I've seen your work and frankly I thought it was shocking, particularly given the "eye watering" bills that accompany it, but what I find offensive about you personally is that you are the embodiment of everything that is wrong with SME's in this country, your approach to customer satisfaction is absolutely appalling, your approach to business in general is amatuer in the extreme and yet it never occurs to you to seek out advice (or even to take it when it was offered freely and in a timely manner that would have prevented the whole sorry debacle of last year) that would compensate for the skills you clearly lack, what is this aversion to excellence you seem to have??? Your business does not deserve to survive whilst the Board of Directors lack the backbone to make you focus on what the business ought to be about, i.e. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.

Now, I know what you're going to do right now because Ben is right and you are one leopard that will never change its spots, so why don't you send my regards to Mr. Higgs when you speak to him (which is what you're going to do having read this post isn't it Russ!?), but just by way of a change, instead of taking this as some sort of personal attack why don't you have a quiet sit down tonight (perhaps with a stiff drink to hand) and ask yourself if this is what you really want? Ask yourself whether you have really acted in your own best interests over the last two years? Ask yourself whether, if you carry on like this, you'll have a business in the next two years? Ask yourself whether a little humility, some contrition, a lot of honesty and a little less hubris might make for a better recipe for a successful business? It could just be that a lot of happy customers with small bills and good work carried out by competent mechanics would be better than an ever diminishing handful of customers paying extortionate rates for sub-standard work, would you not agree Russ?

Kind regards,

Andy
blimey, I seem to have opened a can of worms to say the least.

For my part my experience has been fine with RT, and Russ has never asked me to post anything on here. Unless he checks this forum, he probably doesn't even know that I have posted this.

I can however pretty much guarantee that whatever you think about the work they did and the value, that you either paid well over the odds for pretty lacklustre work, or indeed parts that "should" have been fitted, never were - Leopard never changes their spots and all that....

Replaced a DIM and did the work in an hour - LMFAO - I should hope so too..... More like well under an hour - you must love "eye watering bills" - There's one born every minute I suppose....

OR - Did you upset him and also got told you had to post something nice about him to stop him threatening you also?

Anyway, thank you for your candid review..... And maybe, maybe, one day - the self promotion queen will realise the perilous nature of his ways... Which includes begging people to post reviews up on here - and at least it's a first... despite the ban on RT Mechanics advertising on VOC , you managed to get his phone number into your post...

Busted.... And No Russell, the nails aren't properly in the coffin yet....
Hang on a minute - I have just read through some of these posts again. How dare you say there's "one born every minute" "you must love eye water bills"

Who the hell do you think you are?????

I made a recommendation based on my experience. Fine, if you don't like it then go ahead and post but don't start lobbing accusations at me and what you think of me just because.

You are sounding obsessed in your obvious hatred of RT and have allowed that to affect your judgememt into making personal attacks on me.

Now go and grow up.

Thumbs up Trustworthy volvo agent - independant

I can recommend Hutton Bros in Slingsby, Near Malton, North Yorkshire.

They currently look after my XC90; their prices are competitive, they know what they are doing and are friendly and flexible - but they have been volvo specialists for over 50 years.

I purchased a low mileage V70 from them four years ago we agreed a price. The garage owner owner indicated that if he sold my locally rather than trade (it was a Nissan Pathfinder), that he would send me a cheque?

I never thought anything more about it but sure as hell a cheque for £500 arrived in the post a couple of months later. As far as I am concerned that demonstrated integrity, I have used them ever since and have no hesitation in recommending their services.

You have indeed opened a can of worms...

A couple of threads that may give you some insight:

There are very good reasons why the previous posts were written.

I'm sure he is very active in checking this, and other, forums.

As has been before, not only in this thread but in others of a similar vein, it seems odd that a new member pops up after an "incident" praising an individual or organisation. One bitten twice shy I'm afraid.

Outrage

I'm pleased you made a recommendation based upon your experience, I made my post, based upon my considerable experience and knowledge of that trader.

I apologise if that hurt, upset, or made you outraged <God forbid you start making legal threats too, although I understand Russ will probably pass you his solicitors details if you ask nicely - you can probably pay him in tins of beans given the state of his professional letters..> - however, you were the one who made the point about the "eye watering bill".. So forgive my comments upon it... bearing in mind you've bought it up.

I'm suitably grown up, and over my years of growing up have experienced the best and the worst that the various volvo mechanics can offer - including "eye watering bills"..

I've also experienced the quite common experience many have, of being subtly, or not so subtly asked/hinted/demanded to write favourable reviews on said garages.. I know it happens, and I know that Mr. Thompson is very good at getting people to do it when asked....

So you'll have to forgive my very well founded cynisism I'm afraid......

By the way, it wasn't a "Personal Attack" - You'd have known about that without a doubt.

Have a nice day.

Hello Tin Can

A few pointers! You appear to have put this in the wrong section?
This is called "Volvo dealers we can trust"
RT Mechanic's are not Volvo dealers they are just a Garage like many other thousands out there.
Personal Experience? I would say don't Trust Russ! I don't!
His Brother Andy he seems an honest enough Guy! and i would say you can trust him, he once saved me the better part of 1500 qsuids when upgrading my brakes, Russ would constantly go one about APs and when I spoke to Andy he asked me a few questions and bang! "Greg 302's will be fine"
Have to say they used to work all day long and never faded! Thanks Andy!
Also maybe you should post your experiences up in a few Mini or BMW forums as they have just become Specialists in them to! lol

Thanks Greg

Question Trusted dealerships in Herts / Beds / Bucks...?

Hi all, I'm keen to retain the FVSH for our (63 plate) S60 and the 72k service is due. I'm looking for a (trusted) Volvo dealership that can do the service within the Herts / Beds / Bucks area (we're in St. Albans). Have been through this thread and noted the positive comments re: Volvo dealers in Bedford and High Wycombe but these are further away than we would like. That said, would rather travel the distance for decent service and minimal ongoing hassle.

Aware of Marshalls in Welwyn (mainly awful reviews on Google) and Pillings in Hemel (can't find any reviews and that almost bothers me more) so looking for alternative recommendations or positive experiences of these two for some piece of mind...

Here's hoping, with fingers crossed...

Thanks,

CodMonkey
