If you can find one, the genuine Volvo IPod/USB/Aux box of tricks goes for upward of $300, needs a ~$150 wiring harness/installation kit, and a software update for the audio system that has to be downloaded and installed by the dealer.

There's an iPod/USB adapter made by Grom that seems to be quite well reviewed, goes for about $300, but you lose CD player functionality.

Cheaper alternative you could try one of those little FM transmitter dock thingies, quite how successful you are with those depends on whether there is any empty space in the FM spectrum in your locality

Much the same story... the Grom unit does have a bluetooth add-on module available... but the factory hands-free in my 2009 US model C70 only does phone calls, not music

Well that's a thread-and-a-half... totally lost my morning getting half-way thru that... lots of fascinating stuff there, but nothing I can usefully contribute... I'm 100% lethal with a soldering iron, and not really sufficiently motivated anyway, since I do have the center console aux-in port. I would like to be able to control my iPod with the steering wheel buttons, but have lived without it for this long, so can survive without.

Hi just stumbled upon your thread.

I had this issue a couple of years ago.

With a bit of wiring it can be done by utilising the CD input and using a small box to link into it.

I used this company after a fair bit of research:

Good luck!
