Default Fuel pump

Hi all,
I changed my fuel pump at 110,000 miles for a genuine volvo part. I have now done 160,000 miles and my car has started to present the same symptoms. It is noisy in idle and judders when the fuel level drops below half a tank. Should I try changing the fuel filter, which, I haven't done for five years, or have I got a faulty pump?

I'd be changing the filter before I did anything else - it's well overdue.
