All,
Many thanks for the interesting and informative replies. 5cylinder, I do have an ELM tool and Torque Pro app so will monitor a few runs with that connected up, purely to see if i can detect a regeneration!! Interesting comments about oil grades, I am using Castrol Edge A5/B5 0W/30 which I plan to change annually, so next month the second change will be after about six or seven thousand miles.

Most DPF oils are 0 or 5w30, so you will have to look at the full list on their web site to find an x/40 DPF oil.
The B5 rating is not critical (By defintion they are x/30 only) and the C3 one might be easier to find:
http://www.oilspecifications.org/acea.php

If you can't find an 0w40, look for a 5w40. Mobil Turbo Diesel Truck oil (C3) or Castrol Turbo Diesel (C3) 5w40 are both good for DPF diesels for example.

I would always put half a can of Liqui Moly Ceratec in any non Acea B4 oil in use for a worn block. A lot of owners think that the higher the Acea cat, the better the oil in protection terms, BUT that was only true until A3/B4. A5/B5 has the same performance in engine wear terms as an A1/B1, it just lasts longer and does not foul the exhaust.

PS: I notice Halfrauds are now doing DPF acid bath burn outs:

DPF Deep Clean for filters completely blocked
If it has got to the stage where the filter is completely blocked and a manual regeneration does not clear it or only clears it temporarily then a complete clean is the only solution, other than changing the DPF which will be costly. This will require us to inject a special cleaning agent in the DPF to clean it out, or in some circumstances remove the filter and soak it overnight before refitting.
