Default 2005 S40 immobilizer see manual

I just purchased a used 2005 S40 and was driving it home when it started wigging out on me.....ABS light came on, brake fluid message, windshield wipers going crazy, no turn signals....then got the "Immobilizer see manual" message....car would not start up and I couldn't get the key from ignition.
After googling the issue, I was able to get the key from ignition and finally the car started. Any ideas why this happened? I'm expecting it to happen again.

Sounds like the usual CEM related issues. Disconnect the battery, remove the cloth from under the glove box and drop the white magic box of electrics (CEM). Disconnect all the plugs and give them a clean (I removed my CEM completely), then make sure they are securely fitted and clamped in place when putting back together. Reconnect battery, confirm car starts, have a cup of tea.

The positioning of the CEM is great for passengers giving it a kick!
