1998 V70 R AWD Transfer Box
Hi all. My '98 V70R AWD is in for some work and it seems the dreaded transfer box is suspect. Unfortunately, Volvo have discontinued the box! 😡 Any ideas on the best route to either acquire a new transfer box or get the existing rebuilt??

Double check the part number you need, I think I have one of these in the shed. Mis-purchased a few years ago, unknown provenance though.

Transfer box
Hi James, thanks for your response , the part number is 8602678. Fingers crossed it matches what you have.
Thanks David

I have a 2003 S60 R and last year it went into front wheel drive, I thought transfer box but when I looked into a forum Swedespeed (usa) it was sugested that at around 100.000 miles a built in saftey collar fitted between transfer box & rear haldex fails. It is splined and rounds off eventually. These are on XC models as well , they also can be replaced without dropping subframe. I had mine done by a Volvo specialist Autotech - Carlisle and hey presto AWD,(cheap fix).
