![]() AFAIK George Volvo would exchange the rack and send the u/s one back to their official refurbishers. Although the rack would look new it is surprising what a good clean-up can do. Granted the inside bits and bobs would be new like any other refurbished rack. All the best, Peter |

![]() Your best bet is to source a re-conditioned one from German, Swedish & French, or Eurocarparts. It is an exchange item as the one removed will be refurbished (with new parts) and put back into the exchange stock. You can expect a refundable deposit to be charged. As mentioned above cost is likely to be around £130 (exchange plus refundable deposit). There must be a reason why the racks in your 765 were so quickly rendered u/s. There must be another fault causing it, like a dodgy power steering pump. All the best, Peter |

Thanks Rupert,
I am tracing a judder in my steering when turning right. The LH strut bearing is causing the judder, I will replace both LH and RH bearings. Thanks for info. ivor940 94 940 2.0 SE Turbo Estate 5 spd 145k VOC member |

Hi,
I don't think you have been overcharged for anything, subject to labour rates in your part of the country, but it does appear that you have been charged "top dollar". The MOT price of 40.10 is what I pay which I believe is the maximum that the DOT (or whoever they are these days) allow garages to charge. I use the garage I do for convenience and pay that price because I have got to know them and feel confident they will not fail any of my cars on borderline points - they simply give me as "advisory" or change a bulb or whatever and not charge labour. The only environmental charge I have come across so far is for the disposal of tyres, so they must be adding something for disposing of your old oil, filters etc. Not unreasonable if taken in isolation but I would have thought that most garages would have included this "overhead" in their hourly rate (much as they would for electricity, gas, water & sewage - as Keith says £10.00 for use of toilet). Oil & filters also seem to be full main dealer price although they probably got these from a factor and marked them up. Labour rates vary throughout the country and because we in the South East are wealthy (well that is what my local authority think when they set each year's Council Tax increase!) hourly rates can be 80.00 odd an hour at a main dealer and probably 35.00 to 40.00 at the other end. A work colleague runs a Renault and because he holidays in France he gets his car serviced over there each year at a small, local specialist at 1/4 the price charged in this country! Overall I would think that had you gone to a main dealer then you got a bargain but because you didn't then I think although the garage can easily justify their charges you should look elsewhere in future. Wigan sounds nice :-) Cheers

Just had the bill from my local (he's ex.Volvo by the way) garage.
Full 80K service which included new thermostat and cleaning throttle body, used Mobil 1 oil and included a spare 4L of oil (like to have one in the car, just in case). £130.00 for the lot!
