Outside temperature sensor
I managed to fit another set of instruments from a wrecked volvo, which seems to have cured a lot of problems I had with the instrument readings. As a bonus I now have an outside temperature guage on the dash, but because it has no sensor it reads -288, didn't no it got that cold in Sweden.
What I want to know is where abouts is the sensor itself. In the owners manual it says it reads the temp. at road level so I would guess it is low down somewhere. Anybody got any ideas. |

RE: Outside temperature sensor
in a 340 its behind the bumper.. if its the same as a 340 gauge the best place to find a temp sender is to try and find a 480 with an info center in a scrappy - they're everywhere - so finding one should be easy

RE: Outside temperature sensor
You will find the sensor fitted to one of the undertrays at the front of the car. It ia a push fit into a hole in the tray. This tray has been known to rip off at higher speeds and I would advise fitting some extra safety in the form of cable ties. I have lost two trays and one sensor unit in the past.

RE: Outside temperature sensor
I hope you took the wiring for the sensor and display, otherwise it will cost you to buy these. The sensor sits inside the front bumper, but you will need to get one from Volvo.

RE: Outside temperature sensor
As George says it fits into a hole in the underside of the front bumper on the passenger side (hole plugged on cars not eqipped). The cable runs up the top of the nearside wing and through a hole in the bulkhead by the nearside strut tower. I don't know about 940's, but '88> 760's and 960's have the wring loom pre-wired for these so they just plug straight in.

RE: Outside temperature sensor
Now he tells me after I took great care (and time) removing the display, sensor and intervening wiring from a donor car. Well that's what happens when you change models I suppose.

Sorry, when I said pre-wired I meant that under the dash there is the plug to provide power to the display. You still need the cable from the sensor to the display.

RE: Outside temperature sensor
I've found it thanks, it was held onto a another cable with a tie, and had a termination plug on it. The probe looks just like an electrical connector, and easily missed. Thanks for the help.
