Yes I reckon it will come in.

The AA have advertised the fact too. I believe this is why companies are now removing the filter from inside the DPF so it visually looks like it is still in place.

I have come to the conclusion, no point paying out to fix something that is not broken, if the DPF became blocked then it would be a different storey. As I would be facing £1000 of work, well more like a few hours in the garage under the car but still.

Hoping to resurrect this thread, Hows the tunning going?

Im sick of cleaning my throttle body, fancy the EGR delete. has anyone removed the completed unit? or was it just blanked off?

Intercoolers Mk2 focus RS/ST225 are the ones right?

Since my last update, I've found out a few things along the way. I can only find one Volvo tuner that offered an EGR delete and have since removed it from their website now??? I've done some research in to this and spoken to many tuners and diesel specialists which non can find any benefit from deleting and removing the EGR valve. I'm sure 'other' diesel tuners will block the EGR and delete it from the system/ECU but I'm sure the benefits are marginal at best...

As for cleaning the throttle body this requires keeping the EGR instated as I found the best way of cleaning the throttle body is by spending some money on a terra clean. Yes the cheap option of taking the assembly apart and sticking a rag up there gets 'some' gunk out but no where near as much as a terra clean.

As for the intercooler I also found out that the ST and the cooler on the 2.0D shares the same part number. I'm yet to investigate this but on inspection the parts do look very similar. The RS cooler is taller and the pipe work would need some modification to match it up, you then have the issue of clearing the slam bar behind the bumper.

All in all, intercooler you hampered by clearance. Get a terra clean and EGR delete is questionable if you want to spend the money in having it done plus the traveling to the tuner.

On another note a tidy little mod I found out along the way was if you have the later engine with the cylinder air filter. Then swap that puppy out for a Focus RS ITG setup. The standard ITG replacement filter is good but like the OEM filter it has a top hat that completes the air box housing. The RS filter has a metal ring and the filter itself completes the hole in the air box. Now these have quietly been in development and have seen good gains from this over the enclosed air box.

all this mention of remaps and things im shocked noone has mentioned anything about turbos blowing or even a hybrid of some sort.

i know the 1749va turbo that is on the 130bhp vag engines are only really capable of 170ish i dont know how they can make 200bhp on this engine

EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation!

An EGR delete can make a substantive difference overall. When software deleted out then it stops the valve from operating and as such all the crud that would be recirculated through the engine again just goes out the back first time round.

With an EGR delete the intake air temperatures are lower and as such give you more power and better efficiency too (MPG) with cleaner burning. The heat of the recirculated exhaust gas was diluted with fresh intake air but diluted all the same.

With the delete the engine should run better, cleaner, more power and more efficient.

Shark will do an EGR delete.

EGR delete can be done using a blanking plate simply fitted between EGR outlet and pipe(bolted between). Then simply unplug EGR. No DTCs are raised. Engine runs clean air rather than recycled.

Anyone found any developments on turbo upgrades as thats what ive been looking into. Ive read technical claims from a company who ran trials that the siemens fuel injectors run at 100% duty around 200bhp which stunts any development past there without fuel system changes. Don't take that as solid information just something to consider as may be true.

Exhausts, Did anyone trial fitment of an ST or RS backbox ? Before i risk buying one to attempt, Not sure if the width is correct for bumper valance before i even start.

2008 Onwards, deleting the EGR will through up an error message on the dash. (personal experience) and also witnessed on a friends similar aged S40 2.0D.

Yes these engines have so much more in them and can run 200bhp. The weak point is the DMF and wont last 5 minutes running at 200bhp. Along with the bhp increase will also inturn increase the torque which is what will kill the DMF. A 167/172bhp map with 196 lbs of torque can still kill the DMF if not driven correctly with a lazy driving style. So more torque with the added bhp will kill it in no time at all.

As for the S|T exhaust, yes this has been fitted to a S40.

I have 2008 model and EGR is as said on mine. But fair enough, from personal experience on VAG scene for some reason there can be variation between ECU's. Master reset doesnt change that.

Hi Venom!

What do you mean by lazy driving style etc?

I'm looking at getting an mte remap and don't want to bugger my dmf!

My car is a C30 2.0d on 78k
