Unhappy V70tdi P1 key replacement?

Hi Guy's,

Can a V70 P1 ignition key be obtained at a reasonable price please??

Is a blank available which then has to be cut??

Thanks...

Getting the key cut is not the issue, a lot of key cutting places will be able to supply a key that unlocks the car and will turn in the ignition, the tricky bit is buying a compatible blank for the immobiliser in the first place and then getting it linked in with the car. I think it works out at about £150 for a new key cut and coded from Volvo. I guess you might be able to buy a lock kit and the immobiliser bits from a breakers and change everything on the car. I'm not sure if that's possible and even if it is it would be a lot of work!

I keep meaning to contact an auto locksmith as someone might have the kit to do it but I've never got round to it. If you find a cheaper solution let me know as I would be interested too!

I bought a key from Rufe - £36.80, coded at a locally by Volvo £35, then cut locally for £10. Not that pricey really.

I got a key supplied, cut AND coded from Timpsons for £35 - they can't code all keys, but they did mine no problem (1997 V70) so worth asking them.

High St Key Cutters

I note they were able to do a 97 tdi, but in my case they weren't able to do a 98 tdi - I believe it depends on the chip in the key.

£150 for a new key is a bargain. I have a similar problem with my Rav and the local Toyota dealer wants £270.
