Default 255/55/19 tyres

Hi All,

daft question (probably...).

I run 255/50/19 General Grabbers at the moment. Need to replace them. Have considered the Vredestein Wintrac, but i'm concerned with heavy wear rate over summer. I've seen some Goodyear Wranglers HP All Season for £180/corner fitted and see they've had excellent reviews, but they don't come in 255/50/19. They only come in 255/55/19 and are standard spec for Disco's and RR Sports. This size is 3.39% larger (25mm), so i understand speedo and odometer will be 3% underreading...my mate also has a set on his RR P38 and they have lasted forever.

But, i'm not sure if they will easily fit under the front strut. Has anyone else fitted 255/55/19's? I've seen a guy on sweedespeed has to make the ride less harse but as i'm not a member i haven't asked if there were any problems.

Obviously don't want to put safety at risk for me or other road users, so would be happy to take advice from others. Thanks vey much.

Default Tires 255/55-19

I've got an XC90 3.2, tyres 255/55-19 do fit. No worries. The only thing to consider is that you won't be able to fit ski chains, maybe rear wheels, but definetly not front ones. I've got hankook ventus 255/55 -19, once fitted there were only 3 mm spare to the base of schock absorber. Hope it helps

Also, the GPS, suggested an error of 3% with original tyres, with the 255/55-19, the speedo is precise 100 kph is 100kph. Suerte!!!

Many thanks for the update. I went for 255/50/19's in the Nokian WRG2 winter tyre for the moment. I might look at changing them back mid spring, so will work out if i can get the Wrangler i was initially after.

Interesting about the speedo too. I use GPS from a Road Angel so it gives me a head-up display so i tend to rely on that more than the speedo anyway.

You'll not regret fitting the Nokians, they are a great tyre.

Hi there, just adding couple of things. In general, the tyre 255/55-19 equates to 30 inch tyre. There is a Pirelli scorpion atr that even though the same size, is 30.3 inch diameter. I am aiming those ones as my next set of tyres. The originalls are pirelli rosso, and are to soft did last 35,000 km (no tread at all left). The hankooks are excellent, I will get around 45k out of them. The pirelli scorpion have more resistance to wearing, so I will see. I might be wrong. Still I'll give it a go. Good luck with the wranglers; but as a reference... I had a Volvo XC90 t6, 2003, wearing those wranglers HP, did last 30k, didn't like them at all, I need milage and these volvos as they are heavy, and the traction they got, are very prompt onwearing the shoulders of the tyres.
My car is a Volvo XC90 executive 3.2, 2010, with the gallateia 19' rims
