What to look out for when buying a used v70
Hi, I’m looking at buying a 2012 v70 d3 r design with 74,000 miles on the clock. I’ve not been able to find a reliable service schedule online so is anyone able to advise on what I should look out for or check that certain things have been renewed (e.g. timing belt)?
Thanks 😊 |

The cambelt is 96,000 miles or 10 years, so due on time next year. The important one is the auxiliary belt and tensioner a that have a 5 year 50ish thousand mile change cycle - extremely important these are done as they can fail and pull the timing belt off at the same time. If they’ve not been done negotiate the price down and get them changed straight away if you buy it.
If it’s an auto/geartronic, test drive and get the box nice and hot 20 minutes plus to be sure it’s shifting smoothly, Volvo advise that the oil doesn’t need changing in the gearboxes unless it’s a tow car or taxi, however not doing it leads to premature failure of the gearbox. It should be ok at that mileage, it’s not a hard job to change the oil so factor it in to your service schedule. Other than usual used car checks, can’t think of much more that’s model specific. |

The rear suspension rubber bushes tend to wear out around the mileage you are considering but they are not an expensive or difficult job. They show their age by creaking. If you can identify this on the test drive, you can use it as a price reduction lever.
