Who'd be a car designer/engineer ?

Your brief is to reduce the CO2 rating of a sub-brand within the range but, as the parent co. doesn't have money to burn, you have to modify existing product.
You set about the engine mapping and gearing of the most efficient engine in the range, smooth off the bodywork, fit under trays to smooth off and reduce underbody drag. Cap it off with specific alloy wheels again to reduce drag.
Marketing then come along and say good job guys but it's a bit plain, can we stick on a body kit and put some bling wheels on pushing the emissions up from 104g/km back to 119g/km. Maybe no big deal in the UK at present but when you start paying x pounds per g of CO2, that's an extra 15*x per year for a bodykit and some wheels.

Don't you just love marketing ?
