Drive train locks up
Morning all,
Had a strange experience a week last Saturday when a low rumble whine started from the front end. It almost sounded like a wheel bearing but there was no play in the wheel. Driving on the motorway it starting grinding so I pulled over. When I tried to move to a better place to be recovered it locked the drive train up, only jerking forwards with a loud clunk. Got it home but when I tried to shuffle it yesterday I found a load of roller bearing parts on the floor under the near centre of the car. Could it be clutch bearing as when I try and change gear it's stiff, and reverse grinds? |

I would say a collapsed wheel bearing. Once had one go whilst doing deliveries in a Tranny, couldn't tell other than once going round a round-a-bout that anything was wrong, drove for nearly 200 miles home before it totally collapsed on me up the A1. !!

Thanks Zoidberg. I jacked that side up and the wheel turned, but only as much as it would when it was in gear.
