Arrow For sale: Volvo 960 Estate 3.0 auto

I’m loathe to part with my 960, but I’ve bought a replacement Volvo already, so it only makes sense to move it on.
The 3.0 isn’t as bad on fuel as many would expect, (average 24, up to almost 30mpg on a gentle cruise), but I’ve decided to try some miserable diseasal action (for a while at least), as I’m a photographer who regularly travels all over the UK and beyond. This car has taken me the length of the UK several times, all around Ireland and even to France without a single breakdown.
The miles aren’t low (197k), and it has the usual age related wear, but it’s a great car that will happily serve for many years to come. Neither Volvo nor anyone else builds Estates as well as this anymore!

To hide equipment I had limo tints installed at the rear (a few scrapes from luggage knocking against the glass, but not visible from outside) and legal light smoke on the front side windows

I also recently had professionally installed Toad Alarm & immobiliser/remote central locking which works perfectly.

Volan 17” 850R alloy wheels, which were recently professionally refurbished, (but 2 have had some scrapes since). Three tyres are as new, the other having approx’ 2.5mm left.
I hadn’t intended to sell these wheels with the car, but ran out of time to swap them over with the original 16” multispokes before running out of daylight for the photos! The car is £1000 with the 17” wheels, or £750 with the 16” originals. (that’s very cheap for a set of good Volans, I’ll probably change my mind on that too and just use them on my next Volvo!).

I was expecting to do a lot of towing with this, but soon after bought a Range Rover, so didn’t use the Volvo for much towing at all. However when I first bought the car I had an additional external autobox oil cooler installed professionally to preserve the transmission. This separate cooler is far superior to the under-specced original cooler which is just a small section of the regular radiator. This wasn’t a cheap upgrade!

Recent quality brake discs and pads, both front and rear, and handbrake shoes.

New tailgate struts.

US spec indicators (fully UK legal), and all clear originals are also available.

UK legal pressed aluminium plates, (with a spare non GB branded rear).

Yellow fog bulbs, (just ‘cos I like them).

A slight misfire 1 year ago led me to get much of the ignition system tested during its service, this resulted in 3 new ignition coil packs being fitted at £50 +VAT each. The misfire was cured and MPG even improved after this!

The original power steering pump was leaky, this was then replaced with a used item. Works perfectly fine, and the leaks are gone, but can make some whining noises on lock.

Premium CD & tape player from an 850R which cost me around £100 on Ebay was fitted soon after I bought the car. I also had the CD mechanism reconditioned by a local electronic specialist. Sounds superb!

ABS light occasionally comes on, but the brakes work perfectly well. When last plugged in to a diagnostic machine the N/S front ABS sensor seemed to be the issue. This part is approx. £40 to buy new.

A few dings and age related scrapes, but the shell is solid, and the car looks perfectly presentable. It’s also in the rarest and by far the best colour for a 960/V90 I would say too. I took me a long time, and a journey from Glasgow to London to buy this car 2 years ago!

Nivomat rear suspension works perfect, and always self levels.

No knocks, bangs or rattles from the engine. No untoward consumption of any fluids, no smoke when starting from cold, or when warmed up.

I ran out of time, so it’s still to get a hoover inside, and the engine’s plug cover bolted back on, but apart from that it’s good to go; and with whatever wheels you prefer too!

MOT & Tax due 1st of May 2014 (will pass no problem).
The previous MOT had only advisories for the front droplinks, one of which has been replaced, and the other was deemed by the garage as the tester being overly strict!

£1000 fitted with anthracite 17" Volan alloys as pictured
£750 with 16” original alloys (single silver alloy pictured)

now THAT is how you do a for sale advert.

What a great looking car too. Fantastic job! Best looking 960 I've seen!

WOW!!! What a great looking 960!!! Good sensible price too. If only I didn't have one already........(and the other half has forbidden me from buying any more Volvo's - apparently 3 is enough...?)

More importantly, however, can we all hire you to take pictures of our cars when we come to sell them - just great, great pictures!!

Very best of luck with the sale - it is terrific.

Excellent car, wish it was easier to import as the 960 Estate is rare as hen's teeth in Australia!!

Just a quick question regarding the external autobox oil cooler, was it a genuine Volvo kit? If not what brand is it?

Now that is one stunning stunning car! A whole lot of car for the money.

The 850 is my favourite Volvo but it wasn't for the fact that I've just bought an 850R then I would have been seriously tempted.

I'm still tempted but there's no chance of me having two "old" (in the eyes of my wife) cars.

Universal/competition oil cooler with custom brackets and custom pipework. Increased the box's capacity a good bit too which has got to help.

That car is superb! Looks fantastic. I want it a whole lot, who ever buys it has to buy it with the Volans and keep it as it is. I got a car to sell and before I think of another car but if I sell sharpish I so want this, I would even sell my 940 Sports for this.

I have just put my second car for sale Senator on retrorides so if that sells or you want it (I'm sure you don't)I might bag this. Im in London so I might bring it back.
