Congratulations! Since it's a P1, did you need software updates or anything else besides just fitting the parts?

Did this today on my 2000 PH1 auto using a 1997 manual as a donor car, theres a few other useful points to add.

If your using early ph1 parts on a late ph1 the bracket for the brake cut out is slightly different so the brake light switch part of the bracket needs modifying as the later switch does not fit properly, just use a file to enlarge the hole.

If fitting maunal parts in an auto you still need the clutch switch connected, it wont work otherwise. You need to use a couple of cable ties to secure tge clutch switch plunger right the way in then it works spot on!

Hi there

Thank you so much for this helpful topic / tutorial !!!

My girlfriend just purchased a 2005 S40 petrol 1.6 Kinetic (so a phase II if I'm right) and only miss a speed regulator, so thanks to this topic I hope to add it.

If I understand it well, this model would just need the listed parts and no computer update. Is this right or are there some specific details that should be known ?

She would much more appreciate to have the command on the wheel, is that possible ? If it is I guess we should also change the wheel isn't it ?

And well, if someone has a kit possible to send to France we would be happy to make a deal.

Thanks by advance !

And thanks again Gary for your helpful tutorial !

Hello Gary, very useful thread thank you very much....I.m doing this at the miment on a LHD automatic 2003 1.8.....I got the bits together, I have all the wiring in place, the only thing I can.t find is the vacuum pump wires are they inside the underneath of the fuse box or hhidden in the wiring loom.....I.m looking for I believe one white one black and one white with red or brown chaser. Can.t feel anything like a plug in the harness going in and theres nothing beneath the fuse box unless its inside, if you follow me. Many tganks Rob Jones

Hey Rob. It's so ace to hear that someone is still attempting this! (I performed it back in 2015 but didn't have any of the wires in my S40, and Gatos was kind enough to remove them from a donor car and post them to me, and after managing to install the wires and parts, I am still using the cruise control multiple times each day.)

I'm not sure how much help I can be re the vacuum pump wires, especially as I don't think my car had these, and I had to fit them, but I have crawled back through my email chat with Gatos, and these snippets may or may not be helpful:

Wiring photo: https://p.spdr.me/4Js51bBH
44/5 connector: https://p.spdr.me/9c1v6FxJ

Quote:
Any tips on where 44/5 is located? The connector that has the wires for the vacuum pump coming off it.
Quote:
With regards to the 44/5 connector, it is all the way to the top right of the driver's footwell behind and above the fusebox. There are 3 or 4 connectors at that place that connect the main wiring loom under the dashboard, to the main loom that goes under the wing and the engine bay. That will most probably be the hardestone to get to and you may have to remove the fusebox to get to it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but i think I have sent you the wiring all the way from the vacuum pump to that connector and then from that connector to the dashboard loom. If yes, then you do not have to necessarily run it the same root. You could easily cut the connector off and some of the wiring and just run the wiring behind the dashboard to the passenger side footwell and exit to the engine bay fusebox via a hole there. You will find a medium sized wiring loom coming out of a rubber seal on the passengers side.
