Default aluminium

Hi George,
With the 140/164 series they are of Aluminium. So there can be no rechroming. Straightening will be difficult. I don't know if that's possible.

A lot of anodized aluminium was used on all 140's, bumpers, window trim and surrounds, grille. Yours is no different.
You can bend and reshape it quite a bit, but the anodized layer will crack and distort. It won't look the same again.

As a matter of interest, a friend who has a South African-assembled 164 has SA-standard STEEL bumpers which ARE chromium plated; he too has dented his and wanted a replacement. I know cos he has one of my UK-standard anodised aluminium ones but the insurers advised him it wasn't the requisite replacement.

I'm still waiting to see if he can source one from elsewhere, but I doubt it. The steel ones are of thicker metal than the alloy ones, but that chrome looks brighter than anybody can hope to make the alloy ones shine even if vigorously polished. Mind you, all the other alloy then have to be similarly polished, otherwise the car might look unprepped for that car show......

My mistake, it is alu'.
Got a quotefrom Amazon cars. Replacement bumper used £80 + vat and shipping, £200 for replating. A bit too rich for me at this time.

Default shipping

Well George, shipping alone will be at least € 25 from NL to PT. Getting a nice bumper may cost about € 40 in NL I think.
